From October 2018 to April 2019, Generation Health was evaluated by researchers at the University of Victoria. As part of the evaluation of the program, parents/caregivers and children provided feedback on their experiences participating in the program.
For parents/caregivers, having the opportunity to do something together with their children and to share and discuss their challenges and successes with other families was especially meaningful.
“It gave us something to do together learning a new lifestyle together.”
~ Generation Health Parent
“I liked the group setting and meeting the other families. It was great to be able to meet the other parents and be able to discuss things that we had in common.”
~ Generation Health Parent
“It was meaningful to be around a group of people that were like-minded, dealing with the same issues.”
~ Generation Health Parent
“Each day we went home with something we could practice, that we could learn, or was at the very least a reminder or another way of looking at it, another way that I can frame it for my son”
~ Generation Health Parent
For children, it gave them an opportunity to meet new kids, to have fun and learn about the different aspects of healthy living, and to gain confidence in their ability to make healthy choices.
“I liked being with other kids and having fun.”
~Generation Health Child
“He was so gung ho about it and I don’t always get that from him.”
~ Generation Health Parent
“My son was so interested! He talks about what he’s learning here all the time.”
~ Generation Health Parent
“My daughter feels better about herself, and she is more confident in making the right choices. Other friends commented on that also.”
~ Generation Health Parent
“My child said to me tonight ‘Thank you for getting us into the course and bringing us here.’ It surprised me that she would be in tune and wanting to be here with me. I thought it would just be a struggle the whole time.”
